MIP Book Club # 3 - Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher

Mar 26, 2011 1:17 PM | 4 comments

Today's book discussion on Chris Crutcher's Whale Talk focused on many of the themes in the novel. We discussed abusive relationships, racism, bullying, stereotypes, sportsmanship and Daoism.

The interns who participated called the book "powerful" and "emotional." Throughout the discussion, everyone expressed their own personal connections to the themes of the book to explain why the book meant so much to them.

It was a wonderful discussion that certainly help bond the "Book Club" attendees! See a photo below of the participating interns

Can't tell you how humble I feel when this happens.  Sometimes a book is better than it has a right to be because of the history the reader brings to the reading.

That book was great. Powerful, emotional and touching are just a few words that capture the true message of this book. While expecting a happy ending, I was rudely awakened with a devastating twist that surprisingly gave the book the right ending. Great job and I will reccommend this book to many of my peers.
