Thank you for supporting Bike the Branches!
More than 400 Brooklynites registered to bike our network of 60 neighborhood branches on Saturday, May 11 and helped raise $20,000 for Brooklyn Public Library! The fundraiser—which promoted awareness of the Library’s importance in the community—included mini tours of Brooklyn and BPL branches, read alouds by local elected officials and other fun programs for all ages. A special appearance was made by actress Debi Mazar (the Cooking Channel’s Extra Virgin), Assembly Member Walter Mosley, and NY1’s Errol Louis and City Council Members Brad Lander and Vincent Gentile, who led story times and read alouds.
The day culminated in a Finish Line Celebration at Central Library with a performance from Brooklyn-based rockers The Skins and prize giveaways including tickets to the Great GoogaMooga and a kid’s BMX bike.
Thank you to our sponsors Consolidated Edison New York (Con Edison), NYC Department of Transportation, Transportation Alternatives, Bike New York, Citi Bike, Powerade, as well as Brooklyn Boulders, Ride Brooklyn, Bike Ahead, Dixon’s Bike Shop, the Great GoogaMooga and Cycles & Recycles for supporting Bike the Branches.
Bike the Branches is part of our annual Support the Branches campaign that runs through June 30 so there’s still time to give to BPL and help us provide critical programming and resources within our network of 60 neighborhood libraries.
