Thank you for supporting the 3rd annual Bike the Branches on May 9, 2015!
More than 900 Brooklynites participated and thousands more visited their local libraries throughout the day – the only Saturday of the year when all BPL branches are open! Hundreds of participants biked one of 11 customized routes created for the event or designed their own ride. Congratulations to our 1st place winner who visited 40 branches during the day! The event culminated in the Bike the Branches Block Party at Central Library, where guests enjoyed live music, Smorgasburg food vendors and a Sixpoint beer garden.
Bike the Branches is made possible by sponsors and event partners Bloomberg Philanthropies, Con Edison, Bike New York, Citi Bike, NYC DOT, Transportation Alternatives, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, BRIC, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Explore Brooklyn, NYC & Company, Prospect Park Alliance, Sixpoint Brewery, Smorgasburg and Zipcar. Funds raised by Bike the Branches help BPL provide free programs and services to more than 2.5 million Brooklynites.
Bike the Branches is a key component of the Library's Support the Branches spring fundraising campaign to raise critical dollars for library programs and services. Funding cuts by the City have reduced Brooklyn Public Library's discretionary budget by more than 20% since 2008. You can still donate to ensure that the doors to discovery and opportunity remain open for all Brooklynites.
