Thank you for supporting the 2nd annual Bike the Branches!
600 Brooklynites registered to bike our network of 60 neighborhood branches on Saturday, May 17 and helped raise $50,000 for Brooklyn Public Library! Throughout the sunny day, riders chose their own routes or followed one of the tours designed by the Brooklyn Collection, including Brooklyn Baseball, which featured landmarks of Brooklyn baseball's past and present, and Underworld Brooklyn, which lead past some of Brooklyn's most famous—and infamous—crime scenes. Participants also had the chance to try out Citi Bike with bonus one-day passes and a special docking station at Central Library.
Brooklynites took advantage of activities at all libraries, including bike safety workshops, bike decorating contests, storytimes, puppet shows and Where's Waldo® scavenger hunts. Several branches were lucky enough to receive a surprise visit from Waldo himself! The day culminated in a Finish Line Celebration at Central Library with a performance by the Paulo Stagnaro Group.
We are deeply grateful to our sponsors Zipcar, Con Edison and Bloomberg. Thank you to our event partners Bike New York, Borough President Eric Adams, BRIC Arts Media, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Citi Bike, NYC Department of Transportation, NYC & Company and Where's Waldo? and Transportation Alternatives. Support and prizes were also kindly provided by Bike Smith, Cycles & Recycles, Dixon's Bicycle Shop, Four & Twenty Blackbirds, Redbeard Bikes and Ride Brooklyn.
